The Sao Paulo Bandeirates did little to support starter Álex Montés against the Lima Reyes, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Reyes, striking out 11 and surrendering 4 hits. The performance from Montés allowed Sao Paulo to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said 'Álex, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Montés told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."

This year Montés has compiled a 12-8 record with a 2.41 ERA in 25 starts.
