Héctor Brode of the Durban Dockers was on top of his game.

The 30-year-old tantalized the Port Elizabeth Windies with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.

"He had the changeup working," Port Elizabeth manager Brayden Bonaddio said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Durban hurler had 8 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort.

Brode told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

So far this year, Brode has made 5 starts, tossed 48.1 innings, struck out 34 batters and walked 17. His record is 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .260 batting average.
