Hebrew Hammers Absorb 4-3 Loss at Piraeus Park
|
Athens Fighting Centaurs starter Carlos Torres was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers, 4-3. Torres picked up the win for Athens, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-5. The save was credited to Esteban Arquiza, his 2nd.
The Fighting Centaurs got an important contribution from right fielder Max Shepperson, who in the bottom of the first knocked a 3-1 changeup into right-center for a bases-clearing double. It was his 15th double of the season and put the Fighting Centaurs ahead, 3-0.
After the game, Athens manager Otto Sandschulte applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
Athens is now 38-61, Jerusalem 48-52.
