Rúbio Strokes 5 Hits
|
U.S. Navy first baseman Jesús Rúbio had a big day at Capital Territory Ballpark against the U.S. Coast Guard Bears. The 18-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-5 and led to the 11-1 Midshipmen triumph over U.S. Coast Guard.
"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Rúbio said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."
Jesús Rúbio singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Felipe Cummings in the 3rd, walked in a run in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Roberto Swinson in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Fernando Srapionian in the 9th.
To date this year, Rúbio is batting .245 with 12 home runs.
