Rays Rough Up Tigers, 8-1
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 25-year old second baseman Rubén Jiménez, the Tampa Bay Rays stopped the Detroit Tigers, 8-1. The winning pitcher was Féilim Jaffray. His record is now 1-0. The left-hander went 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits for the Rays. The loss drops Detroit to 2-3.
With Tampa Bay leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Jiménez hit a changeup from Pedro López for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Rays ahead, 3-0.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Jiménez told the Tampa Bay Citizen.
