The Boston Red Sox got a stellar performance from pitcher Marty Lyons, who handcuffed the Pittsburgh offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Three Rivers Stadium. The Pirates, at 44-56, have lost 6 straight games.

Matt Montague, the 26-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Montague contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Boston up, 3-2.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Montague told the Boston News.
